Embodied Foraging Research Walks

Join me for a forage walk that will contribute to my research exploring nature connections

Embodied Foraging

A series of three guided springtime forage walks that will inform my research at Lancaster University. The format is the same as all my walks, with one small exception - we won't be starting the walk with a taste of pinecone gin! Unfortunately any alcohol, even just a taster, doesn't quite sit comfortably with research ethics!

On the walks you will learn species identification and how to notice things in nature from a forager's perspective. Spring greens and mushroom will be the focus.

FAQs

What is the research?

I am studying for a Masters degree in Theatre for Social, Political and Environmental Change at Lancaster University, and this is my major research project. I will be exploring themes of nature connection that people experience on foraging walks. This research has received ethical approval from Lancaster University.

What is involved in participating in this research?

You get to go on a forage walk. It's the same as any of my other forage walks, except that I'll be making some notes as we go along and there will be an opportunity after the walk to audio record any thoughts or insights that you have gained, but this is entirely optional.

Are there any costs involved?

No. You do get a free forage, but there are no other financial incentives to join.

How do I book?

Please scroll back up for the links

Experienced and beginner foragers are welcome. There's always something to learn for everyone.

Do I need previous experience?

What do I need to bring?

If you have things like a basket and foraging staff, bring them. If not, don't worry I have some.
Please wear outdoor clothes and footwear. It can get chilly (we stop a lot to notice things and talk about species), and it might rain.
Please bring a snack and a drink for the walk.
If you have anything of interest that you can bring, like a mushroom you just saw in your front garden, bring it! We can have a look and see what it is.
You are also welcome to bring items to share with the group if you've happened to have foraged or made any recently!
